A Formula One car is a single-seat, open cockpit, open-wheel racing car with substantial front and rear wings, and an engine positioned behind the driver, intended to be used in competition at Formula One racing events. The regulations governing the cars are unique to the championship. The Formula One regulations specify that cars must be constructed by the racing teams themselves, though the design and manufacture can be outsourced.

The modern-day Formula One cars are constructed from composites of carbon fibre and similar ultra-lightweight materials. The minimum weight permissible is 702 kg (1,548 lb) including the driver but not fuel. Cars are weighed with dry-weather tyres fitted.Prior to the 2014 F1 season, cars often weighed in under this limit so teams added ballast in order to add weight to the car. The advantage of using ballast is that it can be placed anywhere in the car to provide ideal weight distribution. This can help lower the car's centre of gravity to improve stability and also allows the team to fine-tune the weight distribution of the car to suit individual circuits.

V8 Supercars is a touring car racing category based in Australia and run as an International Series under Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations.

V8 Supercar events take place in all Australian states and territories, excluding the Australian Capital Territory (which formerly held the Canberra 400).An overseas round is also held in New Zealand, with events previously held in China, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. A non-championship event is also held in support of the Australian Grand Prix.

Race formats vary between each event with sprint races between 100 and 200 kilometres in length, street races between 125 and 250 kilometres, and two-driver endurance races held at Sandown, Bathurst and Gold Coast. The series is broadcast in 137 countries and has an average event attendance of over 100,000, with over 250,000 people attending major events such as the Clipsal 500.

The vehicles used in the series are loosely based on road-going, four-door saloon cars. Cars are custom made using a control chassis, with only certain body panels being common between the road cars and race cars. To ensure parity between each make of car, many control components are utilised. All cars must use a 5.0-litre, naturally aspirated V8-engine.

Originally only for Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores, the New Generation V8 Supercar regulations, introduced in 2013, opened up the series to more manufacturers. Nissan were the first new manufacturer to commit to the series with four Nissan Altimas, followed by Erebus Motorsport with three Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs.[11] Volvo entered the series in 2014 with Garry Rogers Motorsport racing the Volvo S60.

The SL AMGs are the high-performance roadsters for those who refuse to settle for anything less than awesome. First, there’s the SL63 AMG with its 530-hp, 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 mated to a quick-shifting seven-speed automatic. Need more? The AMG Performance package makes 577 hp. The more potent (yet not speedier) SL65 AMG offers up a 621-hp, 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12. The optional active suspension helps the brutish duo behave but the steering, while quick and linear, is a bit numb.

The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is a serial killer. It’s straight-up, put-the-lotion-in-the-basket crazy. There’s but a thin crust of civility over a roiling center of completely freakin’ nuts. It’s the relatively unassuming look of the thing. To the uninitiated, the SL65 looks like a sane SL550. But it is something other than sane.

With a base price of $214,445, the 621-hp twin-turbo V-12 SL65 is the most expensive roadster in the Mercedes lineup, because, says Mercedes, some buyers simply want the top-shelf car that others can’t afford. We thought those guys would be inclined toward the more extroverted SLS AMG GT roadster, but unfortunately that one is less expensive at only $208,605. It’s also less powerful, by 38 horsepower.
